Athletic Shoes
The choices in athletic footwear are overwhelming. Basketball alone spawns dozens of new designs every year, some changes purely cosmetic and others representing real technical advances. Avoid buying shoes that pinch your toes, which should have room to move and never touch the tip of the shoe. For longevity, wear your athletic shoes only when needed. Get another pair of sneakers for everyday. Excessive pronation is the most common cause of running injury. A pronated foot rolls inwards at the ankle, the midfoot bulges inwards and the longitudinal arch flattens. Those who over-pronate generally have very flexible and unstable feet, so need running shoes with a lot of motion control. A motion control shoe has design features that give a high level of support - a firmer anti-pronation post on the inside of the midsole; a firm or dual density midsole; and a firm heel counter. As we age, our backs may start to ache and our feet may become increasingly painful after a day of standing or walking around. Heel and arch pain are most often diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. This condition is an inflammation of the origin of the plantar fascia which is a thick broad band on the bottom of the foot that runs from the heel to the forefoot. The right shoe can prevent many of these little aches and pains by providing support and structure.
